Pile & Lagging Walls

Soldier pile retaining walls, which are also called soldier beam walls, are generally used for temporary shoring. The process can be done one of two ways. One way is by driving steel piles into the ground; the other is by placing the piles in drilled holes that are filled with concrete with spacing that allows for lagging between the piles. The excavation can proceed down to the level of finished grade on the low side. Pile spacing is approximately 6’ to 10’ on center. The stability of the wall is dependent on earth pressure that is being resisted by pressure on the inserted section of the pile.
