Located in Towson, Md., the Blakehurst Retirement Community is a 40-acre senior living campus. Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group built an earth retention system, consisting of cantilever shoring with predrilled piles and rakers for the construction of new assisted living units on campus. Wagman used drilling equipment to drill and set H piles to hold back the earth, providing the most effective support for the excavated soils at this site. Part of the design consisted of a cantilever shoring system; the other portion used raker steel and concrete heel blocks to hold the large excavated earth in place. Once piling was in place, the lagging walls and walers with rakers were installed to hold back the 18’ of earth for the facility’s elevator shaft.

Key Challenges & Project Details
