Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group was subcontracted to install temporary excavation support (TES) for an addition to the Nicholas Meats processing facility in Clinton County, PA. The TES was required at four distinct areas of the facility to support the construction of the additions. The design solution included micropile soldier piles and wood lagging, soil nails and shotcrete, tiebacks, and a combination wall of micropile soldier piles with tiebacks and shotcrete. Numerous existing utilities were in conflict with the work, so modifications to the design were required during construction.
Key Challenges & Project Details
- Work needed to be sequenced and coordinated around the very active schedule of the existing facility operations
- Extreme care working around multiple existing utilities was required to avoid plant disruption
