Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction Group was subcontracted to design and construct permanent anchor wall systems as a cost effective and time saving alternative to the wall in the original plan.
The team designed three permanent walls utilizing piles with permanent anchor and precast panel for the final facing with each wall requiring special design and construction consideration. One of the retaining walls (wall 5) had to incorporate a drainage structure at several locations along the wall itself. This was to account for the piping to pass through the precast panel that directed the storm water into water holding ponds.
Key Challenges & Project Details
- Retaining wall 2A replaced a portion of MDOT’s Post and Panel wall that could not be constructed due to overhead power lines. Permanent anchors and precast panels were attached to complete the gap left by the original post and panel.
