This $2.4 million contract involved the complete replacement of a single span bridge carrying Shady Lane Road over the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lackawanna County, PA. The project was completed in two phases and was very fast paced. Construction included completely removing an existing single span steel girder bridge, constructing a new concrete beam bridge and associated roadway approach work.
Key Challenges & Project Details
- Wagman had to maintain one temporary signalized lane of traffic crossing the bridge at all times, which significantly impacted construction access and work space.
- Although the project was completed in two phases, it had to be completed in one construction season.
- The proximity to overhead utility lines created limited access and work space.
