Wagman Heavy Civil Project

Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway Interchange

  • Location

    Leesburg, VA

  • Duration

    March 2019 - November 2021

  • Owner

    VDOT

This $60M Design-Build project for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) included the design and construction of a new Interchange at Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway. The new interchange replaces the at-grade signalized intersection and provides traffic congestion relief, improved safety and enhanced mobility for bicyclists and pedestrians along the corridor, and improved storm water management.

Battlefield Parkway was constructed to run over Route 7. A two-span precast I-Girder bridge was built over Route 7 during a 10-month detour of Battlefield Parkway. Two roads were constructed to allow access for businesses that were impacted by the construction along Route 7, aiding VDOTs desire to convert Route 7 to a Limited Access highway.

Key Challenges & Project Details

  • 400,000 cubic yards of common borrow must be imported to raise Battlefield Parkway
  • Route 7 is a major artery between Leesburg, Virginia and Washington, DC, averaging 100,000 vehicles daily
