The MD 152 Interchange Reconstruction is a $196M project for the Maryland Transportation Authority. It is part of their $1.1 billion program to relieve congestion and improve travel along the I-95 corridor.
This joint venture between Wagman and Allan Myers, Inc. includes a full interchange reconstruction, with plans to replace the MD 152 bridge to accommodate two Express Toll Lanes (ETLs) and four general purpose lanes in each direction. The project will also permanently remove Old Mountain Bridge and the existing Park & Ride lot. Other improvements include signage, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), stormwater management and landscaping.
Key Challenges & Project Details
- Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction Group helped to redesign an abutment foundation, replacing micropiles with continuous flight auger piles.
- There are five phases of construction.
Project Fun Facts

Light weight fill is being utilized in large embankment areas. This product, foamed glass aggregate, is made from recycled glass and is 70% lighter than common borrow. The material has been beneficial to the project reduce the impact on the waterline.
