Wagman Geotechnical Construction Project

US 1 – Old Lincoln Highway

  • Location

    Bucks County, PA

  • Duration

    January 2019 - Spring 2020

  • Owner

    PennDOT District 6

Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group was contracted by Allan Myers to provide temporary excavation support (TES) for three bridges and one retaining wall in Bensalem, Pa. These bridges carry US 1 over the PA Turnpike and Street Road. Temporary excavation support is required to support phased construction through this very busy corridor. Wagman provided design-build services, including engineered designs for the TES as well as furnishing and installing the soldier piles, lagging, walers and tiebacks. Some of the work was required to be performed at night with lane closures, when traffic volume was reduced. Coordination of the work, communicating schedules, customer needs and overall flexibility resulted in exceptional performance by Wagman.

“I wanted to let you know how impressed we are with Kevin and his crew. They performed exceptionally this year on the SR-0001 project, whether it be actual performance of the work, coordinating and communicating schedules/needs, and always had a professional attitude and a willingness to help.”

Mike Hartranft, Senior Project Manager, Allan Myers

Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Tight access in a very busy corridor. Crews needed to be efficient with working area and mobilizations in addition to being flexible with working hours.
  • Multiple underground and overhead utilities were in conflict with the work. Careful coordination with all parties.
