Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group furnished and installed 26 post-tensioned rock anchors for this emergency slide repair project along State Route 87 in north-central Pa. Wagman provided design-build services, including engineered designs of the rock anchors and their connections to the previously installed soldier piles. Access to the work area was difficult due to the narrow two-lane roadway and the steep slope being repaired. Wagman mobilized a large, excavator mounted drill to reach over the edge of the wall to install the rock anchors. Due to the active slide and fracture bedrock, grouting of the anchors was made more difficult. All anchors were tested and locked off by Wagman after installation.
Key Challenges & Project Details
- Tight access to the work area. The Wagman team had to squeeze into a narrow lane closure to install the anchors.
- Difficult drilling and grouting due to the disturbed nature of the active slide and fractured bedrock.
