Wagman Geotechnical Construction Project

Freshpet Expansion Innovation Center

  • Location

    Bethlehem, PA

  • Duration

    July 2019 - August 2019

  • Owner

    Freshpet

Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group was contracted to help recover the schedule on a grouting project supporting the expansion to the Innovation Center for Freshpet, in Bethlehem, Pa. The site is located in a zone of karst topography in the Lehigh Valley. The intent of the grouting was to improve localized soft soils below proposed foundations. Wagman was subcontracted by Penntex Construction, on a daily basis, to drill and install grout casing and inject compaction grout under the direction of the project geotechnical engineer. Wagman mobilized and tackled this project, completing more than twice as many points as proposed in the contracted time period.

“I appreciate all that you have done for us. Your crew with Josh were very impressive and did a great job.”

Wayne Kudenchak, Senior Project Manager, Penntex Construction

Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Drilling and grouting in a challenging, karst environment. Crews had to contend with pinnacled bedrock, soil seams and voids in the subsurface.
  • A quick response time and fast paced geotechnical schedule were required to accelerate the overall project.
