Asbury Methodist Village is a 130-acre continuing care retirement campus located in Gaithersburg, MD. The Diamond Building, originally built in the late 70’s, is the largest building on campus and was elected as an ideal opportunity for Asbury to upgrade their facility’s interior style.

Renovations to this independent living building began on the first floor and included the lobby entrance, elevator lobby, library and resident corridor wings. Prior to work completion, the owner expanded the scope of work to include cosmetic upgrades to the hallways of floors two-eleven.

Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Pre-construction and construction services for the renovation of an occupied 11-story independent living apartment building.
  • Cosmetic upgrades to floors 2-11 included replacing carpet, tearing down wallpaper, adding chair-rails and replacing lighting fixtures.
  • Working within an occupied facility comes with its own set of unique challenges; the safety of residents and staff being the primary concern. Proposing a “Resident Watch,” Wagman ensured that all passerbys would be safely rerouted past any active construction areas.
