The I-64 Gap Segment C Widening project is a $173M design-build project for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to help alleviate congestion in one of Virginia’s most traveled interstates between Hampton Roads and Richmond, VA.

This joint venture between Wagman and Allan Myers, Inc., will widen and rehabilitate nine miles of I-64, including two bridge widening/rehabilitations over Six Mount Zion Road. It will also add one 12-foot general purpose lane on I-64 in both directions. The widening will occur in the I-64 median within the existing right-of-way. Other improvements include paving, overhead signage, sound walls, retaining walls, and storm drainage box culverts and pipes, and construction of a new Park & Ride facility.

Key Challenges & Project Details

  • This project is the second of three “Gap” segments that will widen I-64 from four to six lanes to reduce congestion on the interstate that connects Hampton Roads and Richmond.
