Wagman Heavy Civil Opens Major Ramps at I-95/SR 896 Delaware Interchange Project

(York, PA) Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. announces the first major ramps at the I-95/SR 896 Delaware Interchange project, located in Newark, DE are complete and open to traffic. New flyover ramps allow I-95 southbound traffic to have their own exits, both northbound and southbound, on to State Route 896.

This is the first major milestone associated with the project and was a significant driver behind the construction and reconfiguration of the new interchange. Delaware Secretary of Transportation, Shanté A. Hastings, P.E., DelDOT officials and the Delaware State Police visited the project Tuesday to celebrate the occasion.

The $224M project for the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is designed to improve safety and reduce congestion on the heavily traveled I-95 Corridor at Delaware State Route 896, which is the main exit for the University of Delaware. It features the addition of six new bridge structures, 10 MSE retaining walls, structure rehabilitations, asphalt and concrete paving, new sign structures, drainage improvements, and a shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Construction began in May 2023 and will wrap up in 2026.
