Wagman Heavy Civil Completes Route 234 Brentsville Road Interchange Project

(Dinwiddie, VA) Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc., joined local dignitaries, project partners and community members on Thursday, July 25 for a ribbon cutting ceremony, celebrating the completion of the Route 234 Brentsville Road Interchange project, located in Manassas, VA.

wThe $55M design-build project, funded by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, was Wagman’s first Public-Private Transportation Act (PPTA) project. It relieves traffic congestion with a new, grade separated interchange that minimizes traffic signals and improves the roadway and overall safety. Two new bridges were built over Route 234 to divert traffic from the north and south. This allows vehicles traveling along intersecting roads including Brentsville Road, Route 234 Business and Route 294, to avoid stopping. The interchange includes a shared-use path, which separates pedestrians from vehicular traffic by means of a barrier on one of the vehicular bridges. Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group self-performed the pile installation for these bridge abutments.

Additionally, a new pedestrian bridge was built over Route 234 further east of the main interchange. This truss-style pedestrian bridge was built on an alternate alignment in comparison to the vehicular bridge and its shared-use path allows users to seamlessly cross over Route 234. Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group also self-performed the pile installation for these bridge abutments.

“Prince William County has been working for quite some time on developing and funding a new, grade separated interchange at this critical location to support population growth in the area,” comments Greg Andricos, President and COO of Wagman Heavy Civil. “We are proud to have brought that vision to life, safely delivering a quality project ahead of schedule, that improves the safety and mobility in this highly traveled corridor.”

Rinker Design Associates served as the designer of record on the project.
