Claymont Regional Transportation Center Receives Excellence in Construction Award from ABC Delaware

(York, PA) Wagman Heavy Civil is excited to announce that the Harris B. McDowell, III Claymont Regional Transportation Center, located in Claymont, DE, won a 2024 Excellence in Construction Award from ABC Delaware. The project received the award in the GC/CM $50M and Over category and was accepted at the Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 21.

The $70 million design-build project for the Delaware Department of Transportation replaced the aging Claymont Train Station, the first SEPTA stop in Delaware, which offers service to Wilmington, Newark and Philadelphia. The state-of-the-art transportation center features two ADA-compliant passenger platforms with canopies, a plaza with ticketing and waiting areas, restrooms, at-grade parking, electronic vehicle charging stations, a three-tiered parking garage and an enclosed pedestrian bridge with views of Philadelphia Pike and the Delaware River. Additionally, access improvements include new auxiliary lanes, traffic signals, a roundabout, sidewalks, and a multi-use path that enhances safety and minimizes congestion for transit buses, motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The project was a collaboration from Wagman, utilizing Wagman Heavy Civil’s transportation resources, Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction services to provide platform, pile and foundation work, and Wagman Construction’s building expertise.

The Delaware Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recognizes these projects as the “best of the best” in the construction industry in Delaware and jobs completed by members in surrounding states. The competition is intended to create a greater awareness in the state of the quality and quantity of work being produced by ABC Delaware members, as well as to raise the standards in the industry.
