Wagman Geotechnical Construction Project

Johns Hopkins University – Life Sciences Building

  • Location

    Baltimore, MD

Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group was subcontracted to design and install auger cast piles to support the new Johns Hopkins Life Sciences Building at the East Baltimore medical campus. This new eight-story building will aid in biomedical research to help make continuous advances in imaging, artificial intelligence, and genetics.

Wagman collaborated with the engineering team to develop a foundation system that was easier to install after the original reinforcing plan presented constructability challenges. Through design refinements, the team reduced the amount of material needed while improving the project schedule.

Key Challenges & Project Details

  • Due to the location, geology, and other trades working onsite, Wagman faced multiple challenges. By maintaining consistent coordination and communication with the general contractor, Wagman successfully delivered the project ahead of the anticipated completion date for its scope of work.
