Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction Group contracted with Hanover Architectural Products at their Hanover Prest Paving location in Thomasville, PA. The project consisted of three different silo domes to hold bulk cement. Each silo was supported by 80 micropiles for a total of 240 piles with an average length of 29’. The design for the piles were 9 5/8” casing with a load of 372 kips per pile, socketed into limestone bedrock, and included 6,000 psi grout. The piles were installed at a five-degree batter in opposite directions to maintain clearance between bond zone of each pile in a ring to support the circular domes.
Key Challenges & Project Details
- The original project was scheduled for a duration of four months. After a second crew was added, the project was completed earlier than anticipated, cutting the duration in half.
