(York, Pa.) On January 23, 2020, the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) hosted its annual Awards of Excellence banquet during the 27th MdQI Conference in Baltimore, Md. These awards are open to engineers and contractors who successfully deliver public sector transportation projects in the state of Maryland.
Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. received the Award of Excellence for Partnering in the State of Maryland on a project over $10M for their MD 261 Bridge Over Fishing Creek project. The same project was also a finalist for the 2020 MdQI Maryland State Highway Administration Modal Award.
The $21M project for the Maryland State Highway Administration transformed the bridge over Fishing Creek that connects two towns – Chesapeake Beach to North Beach. The area is home to the largest charter fleet on the Western Shore. Wagman’s project widened the road and replaced an old wooden structure with a new prestressed concrete girder bridge, four feet higher to allow for larger boats to pass through. It also opened up flow of traffic with turning lanes and pedestrian sidewalks meeting ADA specifications.
Todd Becker, senior vice president of Wagman Heavy Civil, comments, “The team for this project excelled at bringing together the unique skill sets of each member. Combined with conducting business in a transparent work environment, the tremendous challenges of this contract were met. The final product will serve as a centerpiece of the Chesapeake Beach community for years to come. We are honored that MdQI recognized the project team for its partnering efforts.”
Wagman collaborated closely on this highly visible project with MDOT SHA, the NAVY, the towns of North Beach and Chesapeake Beach, as well as the local community and its stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.
