Wagman Heavy Civil Opens New Bridge and Lanes on I-95 North

(York, Pa.)  Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc., announces the new I-95 Northbound bridge over the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is open to traffic approximately four months ahead of schedule. Similar to its sister southbound bridge, the newly constructed Northbound corridor offers designated lanes for both local traffic and thru traffic looking to bypass vehicles entering and exiting I-95 between Route 3 and US 17. The new bridge and additional lanes aim to ease congestion in this highly traveled area, with approximately 150,000 vehicles passing through daily.

The $110 million design-build contract with VDOT for the I-95 Northbound bridge began in the fall of 2020 and is expected to be complete in the spring 2024. This is the second new bridge spanning the Rappahannock River that Wagman has recently delivered to VDOT as design-builder. Earlier this spring, Wagman completed the $117 million I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

“We are thrilled to yet again, open another major Interstate bridge over the Rappahannock River ahead of schedule,” said Greg Andricos, president and coo of Wagman Heavy Civil. “It is because of the hard work and dedication of our integrated design-build team, alongside the valued partnership we have with VDOT, that we can achieve these milestones. We look forward to safely completing the remaining elements of this Megaproject.”

The project is part of the Atlantic Gateway group of projects, which include improvements to transportation within theI-95 corridor. For more information about this project, visit improve95.org.
