Wagman Heavy Civil Awarded Contract for Colonial Parkway Rehabilitation

(York, PA) The Wagman-JMT Design-Build team has been awarded the Design-Build contract for the Rehabilitation of Colonial Parkway, Phase 1 project, located in Williamsburg, VA.

The $122M project is funded through the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The project will repair approximately ten miles of the Colonial Parkway within the Colonial National Historical Park. The project scope also includes rehabilitating 10 bridges and the Williamsburg Tunnel; replacing concrete and asphalt road surfaces, box culvert rehabilitation, installing a new lighting system in the tunnel, guardrail and signage replacement and stormwater management. Not only will the project upgrades improve safety along the most traveled portion of the parkway, it also eliminates hazards to provide an enhanced visitor experience to the millions of annual travelers to the area. JMT is supporting Wagman as the project’s designer of record.

Colonial Parkway was originally designed in the 1930s and is a 23-mile scenic roadway, connecting America’s Historic Triangle (Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, Virginia). The curving alignments provide a pleasant experience between Yorktown Battlefield in Yorktown, Virginia and Historic Jamestown Island along the James River, which is used by millions of travelers annually.

Greg Andricos, President and COO of Wagman Heavy Civil comments, “Wagman is excited to partner with the Federal Highway Administration and National Park Service on this signature project to rehabilitate the Colonial Parkway in preparation of our nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.”

Wagman received Notice to Proceed for design activities on March 22, 2023 and construction is slated to begin this fall.
