The revitalized station features two stair towers with elevators.
(York, Pa.) Wagman celebrated the ribbon cutting for the Mount Joy Train Station with PennDOT, local dignitaries, stakeholders, and members of the community on October 21, 2019.
The new Mount Joy Train Station has new and enhanced features and improves ADA accessibility. It includes two covered, elevated platforms, which replaced the previous low-level platforms, and allow passengers easier access to boarding. The project also featured the construction of a new pedestrian overpass, two enclosed stair towers equipped with elevators, an improved stormwater management system and slope stabilization. Work also included the addition of a 69-space parking lot, while improving the existing spaces and adjoining streets.
The project was a collaboration from Wagman, with the unique ability to utilize Wagman Heavy Civil’s transportation resources like cast-in-place concrete, Wagman Construction’s building expertise and Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction service to provide critical earth retention systems including temporary support of excavation, micropiles and pipe piles.
“This project required incredible coordination and partnership by Amtrak, Mount Joy Borough and PennDOT and Wagman. Our heavy civil, contractor and geotechnical operations uniquely benefited this project,” said Mike Glezer, CEO of Wagman, Inc.
All upgrades were implemented to enhance the borough’s revitalization plans while maintaining pedestrian and travelers’ safety. The new station is “transformational to the community, ridership and the line,” said Jennie Granger, deputy secretary for multimodal transportation at PennDOT.
