August 2025 - October 2025• Receiving timely design approval from MDTA to allow us to proceed with construction and meet the original project schedule. • Working under the power lines and keeping the required clearance with all equipment necessary to construct the wall. • Providing a design that would not impact the 108” water line and pumpstation that was directly behind the wall location.
Wagman’s Geotechnical Construction group provided pricing to install a pre-designed retaining wall (RW3) along I-95 northbound in Abingdon, MD. The original design of the retaining wall called for long cantilevered soldier piles, temporary pre-cast concrete lagging, and a poured concrete face with an architectural finish. A sound wall with galvanized piles and pre-cast panels was then to be constructed on top of the retaining wall.
Once Wagman’s team reviewed the original design and the site conditions, we identified some constructability issues around the OH Power Lines. Wagman provided a value-engineered design option to the client, using low headroom equipment, pipe pile and pre-cast panel facing, which made it possible to construct the wall under the power lines and still maintain the original design’s finished appearance.
